Durgavati, the only daughter of King Kirtisingh Chandel of Kalijer, was born on 5 October 1524 in Mahoba on the day of Durgashtami.  According to the name, Durgavati was a symbol of sharpness, courage, bravery and beauty.  Impressed by the fame of the princess, Dalpat Shah Madavi, son of King Sangram Shah Madavi of the Gondwana Empire, sent a proposal of marriage to Durgavati to King Chandel, despite the caste separation of the two families.  After marriage, the two dynasties got into a relationship.  Chandel and Gond attacked Sher Shah Suri, the enemy ruler.  Suri died in this battle.

Queen took over the throne

In 1545 Durgavati gave birth to a child.  Five years after that Paad Dalpat Shah died prematurely.  The throne fell vacant and the boy Narayan was not yet able to take over the throne.  Dalpat's political opponents said that a qualified candidate should be installed on the throne.  Rani Dargavati took the command of the Rajpat after recognizing the moves of the opponents.  As soon as the Gond Empire took charge, the queen first shifted her capital to the Satpura hill.  The capital was renamed as Chauragarh.  Rani Durgavati built many monasteries, wells, steps and dharamshalas in Chauragarh.  He built Cherital in the name of his handmaid, and Ranital in the name of herself and Aadhaar Singh in the name of trusted Dewan Adhar Singh.

In the first battle, Rani Durgavati had brought laurels to the entire country.  After Sher Shah's death, Surrat Khan took over.  He was ruling the Republic of Malwa.  Surat Khan was succeeded by his son Bajbahadur, who fell in love with Rani Rupmati.  As soon as he sat on the throne, he attacked the Gond kingdom.  Baz Bahadur had to face defeat due to the mistake of considering Rani Durgavati as weak.  Durgavati won the battle.  After this, his name started ringing in neighboring states.  Earlier everyone wanted Rani to take control over Durgavati's kingdom, but after the defeat of Baz Bahadur no one dared Was looking at looking at Chauragarh.  However, the ruler of Manikpur, the Mughal Subedar Khwaja Abdul Majid Khan, introduced adventurism.  In the greed of the queen's treasury, she attacked Chauragarh.  He felt that who would be able to raise his head against Emperor Akbar's clan.  However Abdul Majid had no idea of ​​the fortitude of Queen Durgavati.

In the first battle, Majid had to face a blow, but soon attacked again with doubled army and weapons.  Rani Durgavati had won the last time, but many of her soldiers were martyred.  Rani Durgavati showed indomitable courage.  On the banks of the Nai Nallah near Jabalpur, they took a front and came to lead the army disguised as men.  On the very first day of the battle, Rani Durgavati suffered heavy loss of life and property.  Despite knowing everything the next morning when the fight resumed, Veerangana Durgavati did not give up.  Dargavati said that it is better to live with pride than to live with stigma.  Rani Durgavati urged her wazir Aadhar Singh to cut the queen's neck with her sword, but the wazir did not agree to it.  Finally Queen Durgavati stabbed a sword in her chest and proceeded on the path of self-sacrifice.  It is worth mentioning that Rani Durgavati University located in Jabalpur has been named after the queen.
